The holiday is almost here
Its December 21st and the holiday season has kicked up a few notches. Work for me is a little slow so far this week as it usually is this time of year because it is a family oriented holiday and you guys need to spend your money on your loved ones.
I have been done with my Christmas shopping but all of my kids are grown adults so I send them a nice chunk of cash (including my youngest son’s girlfriend) and then I buy them each one gift. I like having a few nicely wrapped gifts under my tree and its nice for everyone to open something up other than a card with cash in it. Of course I like shopping for myself too LOL
Masha is part of the family now although she and my son’s girlfriend Lucy do not get along very well. Neither one really knows each other but hopefully over time that will change. We have known each other over a year now and as BFFs we literally do EVERYTHING together including the gym. Her english is getting better and better and she has learned quite a bit of slang from me over the past year.
I am taking my son, his girlfriend and her brother to HARPOON HENRY’S Seafood Restaurant located in Dana Point, CA on Christmas Eve. They have the best calamari I have ever had and they are situated on the harbor so the view is very nice. We always exchange gifts after dinner so Christmas day is spent relaxin, watching videos and eating. My son’s girlfriend Lucy is making a traditional Mexican soup called Pozole that is made with chicken, hominy, chiles and spices. Masha and I are both making Russian potato and beet salad. We also ordered a Honey Baked ham so I don’t have to cook. Yeah! As much as I love to cook it will be nice not to.
On New Years Day It is customary on the Russian side of my family to make pork, black eyed peas, and Halooshki. Halooshki is a russian dish made with egg dumplings, lots of onions and sauerkraut all cooked until lightly browned in a pan full of butter. It sounds weird but it is really very tasty.
I have decided to spend this Christmas holiday totally relaxed and calm so I am not going to bake as much as I usually do. I always bake alot of goodies so I can give them away to my close friends but I end up eating way too much of it myself and I am just not going to do it. I always gain five pounds during the Christmas holiday but I am determined not to this year.
My NEW WEBSITE should be LIVE by the end of January 2016. It will definitely look a bit different from the existing one and my blogging will only go back to 2013 because I have to copy and paste each entry one at a time. The good thing is that all of my 2015 galleries will be posted and I will be able to upload video too.
